Health care is a great concern for everyone who resides in the Galapagos Islands.  In Santa Cruz Island there is one Governmental hospital with 10 beds that serves a population of about 16,000 people.  Many people with serious problems have to fly to the Continent for medical help, which is difficult for many because they do not have the resources to pay.  In April 2007 the Hospital hired a new Director.  For the first time in a long time, it seems there is some sort of improvement in the Hospital.  However, it still has a long way to go.
