In Santa Cruz Island, the most populated Island, there are 3200 students in 9 Schools. However, in 2005, teachers went without pay for four months in a row because of a lack of funds. In 2006, school started late because of a lack of funds to hire back teachers. Colegio Angel de Cazares was missing eight teachers. Many schools lack the basic funding to pay for teachers and supplies. Galapagos ICE is certain that the future for both the unique natural character of the Galapagos and its residents are intertwined, and is committed to safeguard the Islands is by attending to the educational well-being of its children. For statistics visit: Galapagos Islands Education Statistics Breakdown.
Everyone can help improve the educational system in the Galapagos Islands by sponsoring a school, making a connection, donating or volunteering their time to Galapagos ICE who uses the funds to provide equipment, supplies and monetary assistance as needed.
